This Saturday we organized the Life Science Run and NSK Weg. For this, students and citizens from Wageningen, nearby cities, and from all over the country came to our nice city to try to set a fast time and race against each other. When everybody had done their warmup laps, discussed their race plans, and put in their starting numbers, at noon the gun went off for the first distances: the 10km and half marathon.
Whether someone was running, volunteering, or cheering on the runners, everyone was trying to get the best out of each other, which was really cool to see. Our runners also competed and set very fast times. Lisan even brought home the win in the women’s 10km race, running a personal record. When everybody finished, it was time for the 5km race. Also in this race, many fast times were set and our runners did great with impressive races and many personal bests. Also on this distance, the women’s race was won by a Tartlétos athlete. Following Lisan’s example, Eva won the women’s 5km race running an impressive personal best.
Last but not least, the people who still had some energy left in their muscles could show this in the 4x400m relay race. Our team Cheetos Babies, composed of 3 members of the Life Science Run committee (Eva, Eline, and Joost) and Stijn, managed to finish before everyone else, securing the third Tartlétos win of the day!
After the races, a delicious meal was served by the Life Science Run committee to replenish everyone’s depleted carbohydrate reserves.
In the evening, people’s soccer skills were tested with a fun glow-in-the-dark soccer activity, after which, everyone moved from the track to the Woeste Hoeve to end the day dancing into the night. To complete the event, some students from different cities even spent the night in Wageningen after dancing into the late hours. Next morning, everybody went back home content and tired from the races, the party, too little sleep, or all combined.
